We are Jen and Jon, and we hope that our insights and experiences will assist those of you considering an international move, and make the transition across the Atlantic a bit smoother. With some patience, organization, and persistence, an international move doesn’t have to feel like scaling Mount Everest. We managed to do it, and so can you.

Early in 2023, we decided we wanted to move to Europe, though we were uncertain of the specific destination. Having just returned from a two-week Mediterranean cruise we were enamored with every single port of call. Our initial idea for a move was Montenegro, as we were enchanted by its history, architecture, and slower pace of life. However, after further research, we concluded that it might lack the infrastructure and healthcare services we felt were necessary. We also considered and researched Greece, Croatia, Italy, Spain, France, and Portugal. After extensive research, we chose to build our new life in France. The decisive factors were the ease of the visa process and the accessibility of healthcare after a short-period of time.

We began preparing for our move a full year before our planned departure date, immersing ourselves in videos, photos, and descriptions of France's major cities. Eventually, we settled on Bordeaux, France.
